Uk grown larch full of character and colour

British Larch is a softwood, deciduous, conifer tree that contains a high amount of resins. It is a medium-density wood.

Considering that it is a dense wood, it is capable of resisting frequent changes from wet to dry with little distortion, shrinkage, and warping. While the wood is prone to surface splits, that does not impact its durability, strength, and longevity.

The British Larch has a faint scent, straight grain accompanied by a small knot. It has a orange, reddish and pink hues that are contrasted by white sap rings.

This form of wood is known for its strength. In fact, its 60% firmer, 40% harder, 30% stronger than European redwoods.

British Larch requires low maintenance, which adds to its popularity. However, it is recommended to treat the wood where it comes in direct contact with the ground.

The British Larch comes under the durability category of 3 to 4. This means that the wood will last you for at least 10 to 15 years. However, if the wood is treated and kept outdoor, it can provide longevity of 100 years. If, on the other hand, left untreated, you can expect a life of 50 to 60 years.

Following are the benefits of British Larch timber cladding –

Even though it is softwood, the wood displays an impressive amount of strength; these trees grow very slowing as opposed to other timbers. And this slow process makes British Larch extremely dense. It takes 30 to 40 years for this tree to grow completely. The whole slow and steady growth process makes these woods extremely durable.

The slow development gives the tree enough time to collect resins that it generates. When the extract is combined with the density, the wood offers high resistance against rot and decay. With a life-span of more than 50 years, British Larch is among the toughest softwoods out there.

Some types of wood tend to attract bugs naturally, which makes them difficult to maintain. However, with the British Larch, you will find no such problem as the wood naturally repels insects. The resins that it has collected over the years boast antiseptic properties that help in keeping the pests and bugs away.
